I was at health show last week in Birmingham and spoke to Dr David Hamilton who was signing his book on how the mind heals the body, he said "The evidence in mind-body science is compelling" he says "You can’t have a thought or hold a belief without affecting your brain and body.
I know this to be true out of my own experience, and in fact so do us all, we are all familiar with feeling depressed and no energy, anger and neck ache, frustration and headaches. Or feeling happy and lighter in the body, more positive and more energy and yet somehow the connection between mind and body is lost and forgotten when we speak of recovery from a life threatening illness.
Yet it is so blindingly obvious, that our story is being played out in our life through the symptoms (disease) that we express.
People tell me some amazing things about their lives as I treat them and I listen, but in truth their body always tell me the truth of what is really going on in their life.
I have developed the ability to listen into the body and I find it fascinating because I can quite clearly see the connection between the name of the disease and their thought patterns.
I can also feel as I touch someone the blockages in their system, my fingers will stop on an acupressure point automatically now until I acknowledge it to myself.
In my opinion and from my own experience the symptoms expressed as any disease are a collection of thoughts that have moved away from love.
Healing then becomes the name we give for the journey of self discovery back towards this state of mind.
We each play out our childhood history and even the present living moment not just in our relationships but also in our health.
I have seen the connection between anger, resentment and cancer and I have also seen the connection between remissions when forgiveness is applied.
I have seen the effects of stress on the mind in so many ways that has led to conclude that
each chronic illness undoubtedly has a psychological component to it and until we address those issues we will never really cure much of anything.
A holistic approach to health treats the whole person, in that process we can use our minds to correct our misconceptions about our past and develop a new way of thinking that ultimately shapes our life for the future.
I know that the body always tells me the truth of anyone life that I treat, I also know that the overriding function is to heal itself
When we use the mind alongside touch to support and nurture that process we give ourselves a path towards health and vitality that we can build upon.
When my son was first diagnosed with Crohns disease, I remember holding him and saying what can I do, in a silent prayer I asked.......... and from the corner of my mind came one of the most profound affirmations I have ever received
I heard these words” Love is the only true healing balm, apply it where necessary to oneself and others"
illness could just be the opportunity you needed to take the journey back towards love.....
